When high-school footballer Devon Barry suits up and takes the field, he looks just like any other defensive tackle—only he plays from his knees. Born with cerebral palsy, Devon gets around in a wheelchair or walker, but he doesn’t let that slow him down. His competitive nature, positive attitude, and confidence have enabled him to also excel in shot put, wrestling, wheelchair basketball and handball. “He’s one of the most optimistic kids you’ll ever meet,” his coach Chad Ashley said. Devon’s goals don’t stop on the athletic field, either—he aspires to study broadcast journalism in college, or manage his own company making products that help kids with disabilities, hoping to encourage other disabled teens to reach for their goals.
