After being sent home, his condition not improving, she took him to another hospital where doctors diagnosed him with anemia, a condition where a lack of iron in the body leads to a reduction in the number of red blood cells—and potential brain damage. “My baby’s organs started shutting down because they got things so wrong,” Rachel says of the misdiagnosis.
