In the inaugural “Buddy Baseball” opener earlier this month in Israel, 45 athletes with special needs and their “buddies” stepped to the plate in front of over 100 fans. The game was sponsored by the Friendship Circle of Central Jerusalem in Israel, a group dedicated to providing friendship and support to people with special needs and their families through various programs. The ball game was a huge success, inspiring confidence, support, and good old fashioned fun in people with disabilities. Buddy Baseball volunteer Michael Levin, a 19-year old Philadelphia-native who became involved with the program in the U.S. and helped organize the game while studying in Israel said, “It was so great being able to share the excitement of American baseball with both native Israelis and those who have [come to] the U.S.”
