Eight-year-old Camden Phillips has loved being the unofficial cheerleader for the Campbell County Middle School basketball team, whose mid-season losing streak took a dramatic turn after he started cheering them on. The team’s coach Chris Scott calls Camden their good luck charm and said that the whole team welcomes him at games “just like he’s one of their teammates.” At a recent Special Olympics basketball game, Camden, who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, had the chance to share his infectious energy on the court—with the basketball team supporting him this time. The game helped Camden’s family raise money to get him a service dog that will alert others if he is about to have a seizure, bringing awareness to his conditions that affect so many children.
