Heroes can be different things to many people—but always leave an indelible mark on people’s lives. This year, Jeison Aristizábal of Colombia was crowned the 2016 CNN Hero of the Year, honoring his achievements in advocating for disabled youth for the past 15 years. Aristizábal, who has cerebral palsy, is the founder of ASODISVALLE (Association of Disabled People of the Valley), which offers therapy, treatment, and education opportunities for people with disabilities. As part of the award, Aristizábal will receive $100,000 to further his mission. “I want to tell you that yes you can,” he said during his acceptance speech. “You can dream, and you can achieve your dreams.”
