More than 80 organizations have teamed up to urge US Congress to support Senate-approved legislation that would create maternal mortality review committees (MMRCs) throughout the country. MMRCs would help health care providers better understand the complications that lead to maternal death, and identify possible solutions to prevent such tragedies. “The legislation will accelerate progress toward ensuring that every state has a high-functioning process for identifying the causes of maternal mortality and working across communities to implement solutions,” a letter sent to congressional leaders stated. The US is reportedly the most dangerous place in the developed world to give birth, which explains the strong support for this bill from organizations around the country.
