Early Intervention Therapies May Improve Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy

Boy with cerebral palsy in walkerIf your child has cerebral palsy (a condition that may occur as a result of brain damage sustained at birth), it may not be noticeable at first. In fact, the condition is not typically diagnosed until the first or second year of life, and sometimes even later if symptoms are mild. Signs and symptoms of cerebral palsy may include difficulty feeding, reduced muscle tone, or failure to meet certain milestones such as rolling over or crawling.

Early intervention therapy is key for children with cerebral palsy. This may include physical, occupational or speech therapy. By starting therapies as soon as possible, ideally before age 3, a child’s symptoms may be minimized, lessening the impact of impairment.
