According to a new study carried out in Greece, equine therapy, or hippotherapy, was successful in providing physical and psychological benefits to children with cerebral palsy. Ten children aged 4 to 18 who received weekly therapy sessions for three months were analyzed in the study. Not only did the therapy treatments promote balance as well as trunk, posture and motor control, patients also experienced increased self-confidence and a great sense of achievement. “Hippotherapy improved children’s daily activities, their independence and, in general, a better quality of life has been attained…” the researchers reported.
