Although cerebral palsy (CP) is a non-progressive condition caused by damage to the brain, its effects inhibiting movement and muscle tone can be mitigated through a variety of therapies. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and special education are all common methods to help reduce the effects of CP. However, alternative therapies, such as aqua therapy, musical therapy, and more recently, equine therapy, have shown to accelerate progress in treating issues with balance, focus, strength, and muscle coordination in people with CP.
Equine therapy is available in many locations nationwide, and can be helpful for any age range, from children to adults. Most programs are supported by local volunteers, agricultural programs, and local farms, helping people with CP and other disabilities to grow not only physically, but socially and emotionally as well.
