Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at two years old, 10-year old Hunter has been recovering from hip dysplasia surgery he had in January 2016. But he isn’t going through it alone—aided by his faithful Great Dane service dog Wendy, Hunter is learning to walk all over again. Wendy came into his life in 2013, acting as a crutch for Hunter with every shaky step he took and as a boost for every time he fell. “When Wendy came to live with us, I cut down my falling to three times a day. Before it was more like 500!” The duo has their own language to communicate directions and commands with the help of a gentle leader, and they love going on hikes together. “One day, I’ll climb Mount Everest with Wendy. She’ll always be there for me. She’s my best friend.”
