In November 2017, a bill was approved by the Senate Health Policy Committee in Tallahassee, FL to require medical professionals involved in out-of-hospital births to report adverse medical incidents to the state. The committee also added an amendment to the bill defining adverse medical incidents, which may include the death of mother or child or the transfer of a newborn to an NICU due to physical or neurological birth injuries. Prior to this legislation, the state had no such reporting requirements.
