An analysis of four clinical trials reported that Dysport is a safe and effective treatment for lower limb spasticity in pediatric patients ages two and older. Dysport, an injectable form of botulinum toxin, is currently the only FDA-approved treatment of its kind for these young patients. The medication reportedly works by inhibiting the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscle, enabling contracted muscles to relax. In individuals with cerebral palsy, the injection may relieve symptoms of spasms, facilitating the execution of daily tasks and improving quality of life.
