Cerebral palsy (CP) is one of the most serious birth injuries caused by brain damage that can affect the body’s ability to control movement and posture. During the month of March, Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, we are aiming to bring positive attention to the disorder and spread knowledge and understanding of CP and the implications it may have, as well as inspire hope and strength in those affected by the condition.
CP is often caused by a lack of oxygen and blood flow to a baby’s brain during labor and delivery—this deprivation may be due to medical malpractice including but not limited to the mismanagement of Pitocin during labor causing hyperstimulation of the uterus and diminishing the baby’s fetal reserves. Early signs and symptoms include difficulty with feeding, reduced muscle tone, dragging of the feet, and walking on tip-toes. CP is often not detected for months, or even years into a child’s life, but under proper care, children with CP can improve their quality of life.
If your child was diagnosed with CP as a result of medical malpractice, or if you have questions about CP, please call us at 877-262-9767 to speak with an experienced attorney about your rights.
