According to a new study out of Singapore, women who conceive through in vitro fertilization (IVF), have an increased risk of developing gestational diabetes. After studying over 1,000 pregnant women, researchers concluded that participants were almost twice as likely to develop gestational diabetes if they conceived through IVF as compared to individuals who conceived traditionally. The risk of gestational diabetes was greater among overweight or obese women who conceived via IVF.
Gestational diabetes may increase the likelihood of complications such as fetal macrosomia, shoulder dystocia, instrumental delivery by forceps or vacuum, birth by caesarian section, jaundice, or other issues.
