Maeve is all smiles when she hears her new voice for the first time through the talker that she uses to communicate. Cerebral palsy has made it difficult for Maeve to speak. While her computerized speech assist device enables her to communicate, she sounded nothing like the 8-year old girl that she is. With the help of her sisters Erin and Megan, the girls worked with Dr. Rupal Patel of VocaliD, a company that creates custom synthetic voices, to record an entirely new lexicon for Maeve. The new voice took nearly a year to finalize, but Maeve is thrilled with what she hears. “I want to say hi to Taylor Swift with my new voice,” she said.
