30 years ago, Chris Trokey was given a 50% chance of surviving after he was born severely prematurely, weighing just 3.2 pounds. His pediatrician, Dr. Michael Shannon, worked tirelessly to stabilize Chris and help him survive. Fast forward to 2011, when Dr. Shannon suffered a serious car accident, pinned inside his burning car before paramedics arrived to free him from the vehicle. During his 45 days in the hospital, a visit from one of his rescuers led to an amazing revelation: the paramedic who helped save Dr. Shannon’s life from the burning car was in fact Chris, the infant he saved 30 years ago. Dr. Shannon reflected on his experience, saying “It’s amazing to watch them all grow up, but to have one come back in your life, on a day you really need it, that’s really incredible.”
