Bhoomi Manjunatha, a 5-year old girl with cerebral palsy, recently underwent a rare spinal surgery at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. The surgery is called selective dorsal rhizotomy, and is most commonly performed to treat the pain and movement limitations associated with cerebral palsy. Three months post-surgery, Bhoomi’s muscle strength and walking skills are dramatically improving with intense physical therapy. “…she’s pulling herself up to stand and she’s walking while someone is watching her with a walker,” her therapist commented.
