A Chinese study released in the Journal of Molecular Neuroscience found that a specific injection promoting nerve cell development may improve cognition in children suffering with mental disability due to cerebral palsy. In combination with conventional rehabilitation therapy, children that received injections directly to the damaged tissue in specific cerebral acupuncture points (known as GM1 acupoint injections) showed more improvement in cognitive and motor function as compared to children who were administered the treatment through standard under-the-skin injections. The study concluded that in conjunction with conventional rehabilitation, GM1 acupoint therapy improves blood circulation, promoting the growth and function of nerve cells.
