According to findings of a new study, women who have preeclampsia during pregnancy may have a higher risk of memory problems later in life. The December 2020 study was published in the journal Neurology by Dutch researchers at Erasmus MC. Researchers note that of the almost 600 pregnant women they analyzed in the study, 481 had normal blood pressure while 115 developed high blood pressure/preeclampsia. After following up with these women for 15 years, researchers found that the women with high blood pressure scored lower on immediate recall tests. This link demonstrates the importance of close monitoring by a doctor during pregnancy to help reduce this and other risks associated with preeclampsia.
