At 7.5 months pregnant, Vanessa Picciotto Perrine had developed preeclampsia, a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by high blood pressure, but her condition had gone undiagnosed. She sadly passed away from the condition, and her baby survived for only three days. To remember her legacy as an avid golfer and member of the 1999-2003 Women’s Golf Team at Wagner College, and to heighten awareness of preeclampsia, Vanessa’s family raised $100,000 for an endowed fund which supports a golf tournament at Wagner College. The tournament is meant for college women to compete, and its goal is “getting girls that age to be aware of preeclampsia,” her father Vincent Picciotto said.
