University of Delaware Students Build Toy Cars for Children with Disabilities

The University of Delaware’s Assistive Medical Technology Club joined forces with Newark, Delaware city employees to refit toy cars for local children with disabilities. The group modified battery powered toy vehicles to be controlled by a large red button on the steering wheel, rather than a pedal. These cars will help children with conditions such as cerebral palsy enjoy free play while encouraging muscle tone development and coordination skills. Other toy vehicles were adjusted to allow children to practice standing and walking, by supporting them in an upright position. All cars were outfitted with secure harnesses and padding to allow for safe play.

If your child is affected by cerebral palsy as a result of malpractice, call us at 877-262-9767 to discuss your situation.
