Born two months early and deprived of oxygen, Lizbeth Gomez and her twin sister have learned to live with cerebral palsy. This spring, Lizabeth graduated high school in California as valedictorian and was awarded a four-year, nearly full-ride scholarship to Stanford University where she will realize her dream of studying biomedical engineering and conducting research on the condition that has shaped her life. Lizabeth is the daughter of immigrants from Jalisco, Mexico, and grew up with five siblings in a one bedroom apartment. This seventeen-year-old has transcended physical and economic boundaries, pursued her dreams with vehemence, and will continue to use education as a vehicle to understand this life altering disease.
