Zofran-Linked Birth Defects Found Across the Country

Zofran (ondansetron), an anti-nausea drug that is FDA-approved for use by chemotherapy, radiation, and organ transplant patients, has never been approved or tested for safe use by pregnant women.  The drug’s manufacturers, however, have promoted the drug “off-label,” (which means prescribed for a use that is not approved by the FDA) for the treatment of morning sickness in pregnant women.

Studies have shown that the use of Zofran (ondansetron) during the first trimester of pregnancy can double the risk of cleft palate and heart defects in children. Unfortunately, the use of Zofran during pregnancy has resulted in devastating side effects for children across the country who were exposed to the drug and its side effects.
